The Tomsk EIC
The American Education Information Center (EIC) was organized in 1993 in Tomsk to assist talented individuals interested in studying in the United States. The Tomsk EIC is funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State

At present, the Tomsk EIC is one of the largest in Russia, receiving approximately 10,000 inquiries per year..

The center strives to provide accurate, comprehensive, current, and unbiased information on educational opportunities in the United States.
We do not endorse or rank any college or university, nor do we endorse services provided by any company or organization in the areas of test preparation, admissions, placement, language training, or visa procurement.

Resources include an intensive collection of General Reference Guides and Catalogs, University Guides and Catalogs (Undergraduate, Graduate, Postgraduate Programs), Test Preparation Materials (Audio Materials), Test Bulletins, CD Resources about U.S. Universities, a collection of University Videos..
Services
Regular activities at EIC include:*general lecture or a workshop on various topics such as: System of the U.S. Education; Application Process to the U.S. Universities; Funding for U.S. Study and Financial Aid; Standardized Tests: TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, SAT, Statement of Purpose; U.S. Sponsored Programs; How to Write a Resume, *individual consultations, *video film presentations, *outreach lectures on US education,*Annual US Education Fair.
Special Events
The center hosts an educational fair. The Last Year Students' Education Fair attracted over 300 students, scholars, and professors from local academic institutions. Fair Activities included lectures and panel discussions on US education, video presentations, and a lottery drawing.
Pre-departure Orientation
The Pre-departure Orientation is given to students who have been accepted to American schools in early summer. This orientation offers students information on student visas, travel, health insurance, banking, and academic and cultural adjustment issues.
Alumni
The center hosts re-entry lectures and seminars on how to write a resume and cover letter for alumni to apply to the U.S. Universities and U.S. Government Sponsored Programs. In addition, the center provides special programming to ease the reverse cultural shock. We invite alumni to speak at events for potential students of U.S. Universities to share their experiences and offer advice. We organize Alumni meetings to see the problems that they come across to. Nowadays the Center offers Alumni to have open access to Internet, to take part in the Internet Educational Sessions and Thematic Workshops.
Outreach
The center conducts outreach activities in six Tomsk Universities and Secondary Schools to disseminate information about the center and study opportunities in the United States throughout Tomsk.
Some Facts
The Educational Information Center (EIC) in Tomsk was established in 1993.and the U.S. Ambassador in Russia, Thomas Pickering opened the doors of our Center officially.
The EIC assists interested students and scholars in continuing their education in the United States. We provide open access to information about the U.S. system of education, the US university application process, and fellowship opportunities; and conduct pre-departure orientation and re-entry programs.
The EIC is financially supported by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, Tomsk State University and administered by the Tomsk State University.
The EIC is housed in the Scientific Library of the Tomsk State University. We invite all those seeking information about study in the USA to visit our Education Information Center. Visitors must have a library pass. In order to get a library pass, you must bring your passport. Reference books and information folders are available in our Center.
The catalog of the center resources is available in the Center (books, handouts, video films).
We do not sell or copy our materials. If you want to type application materials, you can use the computers installed in our Center. Also you can use the computers to find more information about colleges (universities) in the Internet.
In March 2001 on the basis of the EIC the Internet Center, an initiative of the Project Harmony Inc., was launched for the US Educational Exchange Program Alumni. The IATP Internet Center is sponsored by the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, State Department, USA and the Tomsk State University.
