The establishment of the first university in Siberia received encouragement from the world community. Many organizations from different countries in Europe, Asia and America presented TSU with books and museum collections. TSU professors gave lectures abroad and worked at leading scientific centers. According to the resolution of Astrophysical Congress in Manchester (1909) and thanks to Carnegie Institute support, an Astrophysical Station was built in Tomsk, at the center of Euro-Asian continent in 1913. It was located on the territory of Botanical Gardens. Thus, TSU partnerships with foreign colleagues has a long history. For many years those partnership traditions remained unbroken until they were renewed in 1992 when Tomsk became an open city again. Since then TSU has made a break-through in international cooperation and for 10 years has tried to make up for the lost time.
